Side Pocket

Arcade games were a huge success when they were released in the 80’s. These games focused on people of all ages. This led to the introduction of a variety of different games including sport games such as pool and bowling.

Side Pocket is a multi-platform series of “pocket billiards” (pool) simulator arcade video games produced in 1986. There are three games in the Side Pocket series. This game is played like a normal pool game. The objective of the game is the same as a normal pool game. Hit the balls and get points for getting the most balls in the pockets of the billiard table.

The Gameplay

The gameplay is very easy. Just hit the balls and get points for getting them into the side pockets. It is just like any other pool game. The unusual single player mode, called “pocket”, requires that the player clear all the balls off the table in a limited number of shots, as well as achieve a predetermined score. The player earns points by sinking balls, sinking balls on consecutive shots, and sinking balls in numerical order.

In the two-player pocket mode, the game plays similarly, except the two players take turns; if one player does not pocket a ball or scratches, control of the ball goes to the other player. There is also a two-player “nine-ball” mode.

Strategy

On some occasions, a pocket will light up, and if the player sinks a ball into that pocket on that shot, a bonus will be earned in the form of points or extra shots.

A variety of “trick shot” challenges are also available to the player(s), to earn additional points or extra shots, requiring the player to sink all balls into selected pockets using a single shot. The player may put various spins on the ball, such as left and right “English”, and perform “masses” and “jump shots.”

Difficulty Levels

There are no rounds or levels in this game. The player has to complete a whole match. In two-player mode, the player has to defeat the opponent.

Interface and Controls

Use the arrow keys to change the directions and the control button to hit the balls.

Side Pocket is the perfect game for all those pool fans out there.
